  I never understand why people spend millions renovating a building to open a restaurant and then serve average food. What a disappointment. The wine was good...the food was average at best. The rolls were too sweet and doughy. The onion soup was not to great. The salad was fresh. The crab cake was okay but not as great as they hipe. The chicken pot pie had no salt, pepper or spices. It was most likely made days before and heated up. It was not a pot pie at all. It had a few pieces of old puffed pastry popped on top. We didn't bother to order dessert or coffee. Don't bother going to the Salem City Cafe if you expect the food to be as nice as the renovation!

  Beyond my wildest expectations to find such great food at a small town
  location. I work on the road and the crab cakes were the best I have ever
  tasted. I would rather pay more and get quality than average and average. I would recommend the Salem City Cafe for anyone at least one time and then you be the judge.

  I looked at their menu online and saw an entree I knew I would absolutely love. I drove all the way there and ordered the entree (which was listed in their restaraunt menu inside), only for the waitress to tell me they are not serving it anymore and they have not changed the menu yet. I was not offered an apology. I had already ordered my soup and drinks at this point or I would have just walked out. There are only 9 entrees left on the menu as of now. The crab bisque didnt have any crab meat in it and the entree I ordered was okay. The salad was watery and the dressing was bland. The only thing I enjoyed was a slice of cheesecake for dessert. If you are looking for a much better meal for the same price and willing to drive a bit further- Franklinville Inn. The ambiance is great at Salem City Cafe, and that is about it.
